About / Biographic Information:

Silvio Giorgi and Belen Mena are graphic designers based in Ecuador. In 1994, Silvio Giorgi and his brother Sandro established the design agency GIOTTO in Quito. Their work is deeply rooted in the identity and picturesque nature of Ecuador, drawing inspiration from pre-Hispanic cultures and the "pure and intense" colors of the region.

In 2001, Silvio Giorgi collaborated with fellow designer Belen Mena on a series of posters for a public-space exposition titled "Reflections on Society". These posters were displayed on thirty-five street corners in Quito for three weeks.

Description:

The "society:man" poster is part of a larger series that offered a critique of society through single, powerful messages on themes such as marriage, sex, politics, and religion. The designers aimed to communicate with a country full of "contrasts and taboos" using concepts that acted as a "shout from the wall" while also allowing the audience to laugh at themselves. Visually, the poster features a minimalist, high-contrast illustration of scissors against a bright yellow background, representing the theme of "man" within the social construct.
